After a four year hiatus from the last series release, UDMX is now available for public consumption.

The release of UDMX marks quite a few accomplishments and milestones for Unidoom. The X in the wad's title is in reference to ten years of Unidoom. In 1998, Unidoom was founded and has since had over 70 members who have all contributed in special ways. Not only does UDMX commemorate ten years of Unidoom, but will also mark the seven year anniversary since UDM1 was uploaded to the /idgames archive in 2002.
UDM1 was released to much hype just as the year turned to 2002. Though the wad certainly does not match up to today's standards, at the time UDM1 was being introduced to a much smaller multiplayer community where the only wads played were stock Doom 2 and dwango5. UDM1 shook up a small, multiplayer community that was content with playing wads from 1996 and encouraged people to not only play new wads but to even build them. In the following two years, the series evolved with two more releases and continued to be played widely across servers on ZDaemon and Skulltag. It was also responsible for kick starting a wad building community that was not common amongst the deathmatch community at the time, spawning other popular series such as TLSDM.

UDMX is a far cry from UDM1 as should be expected, but it is truly remarkable to see the difference from the first wad made by just me and deathz0r seven years ago and the newest. The UDMX team feels as though they have made one of the best deathmatch megawads of all time and, though I surely have a certain degree of bias, I would be hard pressed to be able to find a large deathmatch wad that both looks as beautiful while playing as well as UDMX. I hope that ten years from now, this wad will be remembered as one of the best of all time because it truly deserves that accolade.
Many people were responsible for getting UDMX to where it is in the final release. Series staples such as deathz0r, Alexmax, Liam, and Harvey all make appearances on the project while new blood like Doomguy666, DD_133, and thefwf also contributed significantly. Others that bear mentioning for helping us throughout the development process are Nes, Hex_Vulture, esselfortium, and all of the various texture artists of the community (who unfortunately go uncredited because there are roughly 6000 of them).

However, special credit needs to be paid to both RottKing and Nautilus. These two were the driving force behind the project and are truly the reason that it ever saw the light of day. After years of name and style changes, maps being thrown out, and then eventually years of no progress, RottKing and Nautilus were responsible for the revival of the project and pushed it daily. Even though these two are only credited for 10 maps in the intermission sequences, they were truly responsible for much more. They significantly modified and improved over 65% of the maps in the project. This number does not even take into account the organization and resource management that both individuals kept in check.
UDMX has 32 maps in it, none of them similar but all built with special care by their authors. The wad is fun to play and a great tribute to the history of Unidoom. I am strongly convinced that this is not just one of the greatest deathmatch megawads, but THE absolute greatest of all time. If anyone intends on one-upping this one, they better get to work.

As this is likely the last UDM, I feel that this is the high point that the series needed to go out on. There are no bad maps in this set, no regrets, and I truly hope it stands the test of time. I am proud of the team that worked on this and I hope that they are all as proud of the work that they put in. Congratulations Unidoom.
I hope that everybody has a happy and safe New Year, hopefully filled with many hours of Doom. UD ON TOP!
