SLADE News / SLADE v3.1.2 Beta 2 Released

Not a whole lot of changes since beta 1, though some fairly major bugs have been fixed. See the changes here.

SLADE News / First v3.1.2 Beta Released
« on: May 24, 2017, 03:11:57 am »
Long long overdue, finally the first beta version of SLADE 3.1.2 is released. I had wanted to get a bit more done before releasing this (namely proper ZScript support), however that was proving much more complicated than I anticipated, so it's on hold for now.

3.1.2 has seen lots of changes over 3.1.1, which you can see a (somewhat condensed) list of here.

Note that this version also has many under-the-hood changes which could potentially have caused some bugs to creep in, so be warned that some things may be broken that were fine before. Please report any issues on the issue tracker (or alternatively SLADE Discord or the ZDoom forums thread if you prefer).

I hope (yeah I know I keep saying this stuff =P) to have more rapid releases from now on, more than a year between major versions is too long. Also expect more rapid/minor beta releases as bugs are fixed etc before the final 3.1.2 release.

SLADE News / SLADE v3.1.1.5 Released, WinXP Support Returns (For Now)
« on: January 18, 2017, 12:43:38 am »
Another minor bugfix release for 3.1.1 is here, as usual you can see the changes over at the change log, and can download it at the downloads page.

On Windows XP Support
Since v3.1.1.3, SLADE has not run on Windows XP, which was due to the crash report sending feature introduced in that version. With v3.1.1.5 I have provided a Windows XP build that disables this feature, so it should run again.

Going forward, if another issue preventing SLADE from running on Windows XP crops up, I will not be implementing another workaround to correct it and at that point SLADE will no longer officially support Windows XP.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to keep XP compatibility while moving forward with modern development tools and libraries, not to mention the OS is no longer supported by Microsoft itself.

What's Next
Now that a new stable release is out, I plan to get the first beta for 3.1.2 out fairly soon, which should include some kind of ZScript support.

As it's been so long since 3.1.1 and the planned features for 3.1.2 aren't even half done yet, I think some of the map editing features planned for it will need to be pushed back, unfortunately. There are already other good map editors around but not much else for resource editing, so I will likely be focusing on that side of SLADE for the next few versions at least.

Of course, that doesn't mean the map editor will be neglected - often new features are implemented depending on what I feel like doing at the time rather than what I think is most important, SLADE is a hobby project after all =P

Here's another minor release, with mostly bug fixes - including a pretty bad one on macOS. For a full list of changes see here.

SLADE General Discussion / Re: Workflow question: saving maps in directories
« on: September 26, 2016, 07:11:51 am »
Ah ok, yeah if you open a map .wad manually from the maps/ subdirectory, saving the map within it will only save that particular wad in memory, but not to disk (as it won't save the parent archive). If you use the map editor launcher instead of double-clicking the map in the wad everything should save correctly.

Hmm yeah I guess it probably should do that at least. For now, there is also the option to save the parent archive when saving a map (in Preferences -> Editing, "Save the map's parent archive when saving a map")

Take a look here:, SLADE supports some of the DECORATE keys DB does, most notably //$Sprite and //$Category are what you are after.

SLADE News / SLADE v3.1.1.3 Released

Another release of 3.1.1 is out, with the usual minor improvements and bug fixes. The OSX build in particular received various improvements in addition to moving to wxWidgets 3.1.0, which should improve some things on retina displays and resolve a bunch of issues there.

For a full list of changes in, see here.

I'm not sure what that would be, but sounds like a Windows thing more than a problem with SLADE. Have you tried running it as administrator?

Might be to do with wxWidgets 3.1.0. What OS are you running it on and what are your DPI settings?

A new version of SLADE is up with a bunch of fixes over, which can be seen here. I wasn't planning on releasing this just yet, but Microsoft decided to move the visual studio runtimes download location which broke the installer. The installer for this version should work properly again, as I've changed it to download the runtimes from the SLADE website, rather than Microsoft.

Probably the quickest way to do both of these things is to use 3d mode. For the first you can select both the upper+lower parts with one click each, then right click (or ctrl+t) to select a texture. For the second, aim at one of the missing textures and shift+left click, which will select all adjacent missing textures.

SLADE News / So Many 1s, Again (SLADE v3.1.1.1 Released)

Hot on the heels of 3.1.1 comes, with quite a few bug fixes, including some especially major ones - SLADE can actually open maps with slopes in them without crashing now (oops). The release also hopefully resolves some long standing issues with saving zip files and entry data becoming messed up, among various other things which can be viewed here.

In other news, 3.1.2 is still coming along, recently I've been looking at some improvements to the text editor, like code folding, an improved find+replace bar and some better customisation options like the ability to set a global default font for the text editor. Also, eevee has began to make some progress implementing 3d floors preview in 3d mode, which is also planned for 3.1.2.

And it's time for the official release of SLADE v3.1.1. For a full list of changes since see here. The most notable new features are slopes support in the map editor 3d mode, entry list sorting, and a new grid view/editor for various data entry types.

Some work on 3.1.2 is already underway, including the ability to open entries in external editors (eg. graphics in paint), so look forward to that in the first beta of 3.1.2, whenever that is.

It's beta time again, this time the 3rd beta of 3.1.1. Now that everything for 3.1.1 is completed, this will be the last beta before release, which should be within the next month or so. Hopefully.
